Dubsmack 1 Year Anniversary

It goes without saying that Dubsmack holds a certain place in the heart of every Ottawa dubstep fan. With this Thursday marking the event's 1 year anniversary, the homies at TheKnwldg have brought in 12th Planet once again, but not only that our friends Rainman and Dubspec are opening. It's not every night you get to watch these guys open together so make sure to come early!


Dubspec also recommended this soon-to-be released track to us from 12th Planet and Antiserum, so take a quick listen.

Art in the Streets Exhibition

The first US exhibition of graffiti and street art is being presented starting in mid April by MOCA (The Museum of Contemporary Art) in Los Angeles. This exhibition features several shows within the show and traces the graffiti and street art movements from the 1970s until today. The work of over 50 diverse artists will be showcased including Shepard Fairey (LA), Swoon (NY), and JR (Paris). Aside from working to bring together a selection of artwork, MOCA also organized educational community workshops as part of the gallery and organized skateboarding workshops alongside Nike SB. Dubsmack March

Coming up this Friday is another edition of Dubsmack. We're excited for this one not only because Bare Noize is headlining but it's also Dubspec's first show in Ottawa! In the past, our friends at TheKnwldg have brought in names like AC Slater, Mt Eden, and 12th Planet, so expect your cravings for wobble and womp to be fully satisfied.

Frenzy March w/ Neoteric

The guys at Straight Goods brought in Neoteric from Vancouver for the March edition of Frenzy at Babylon. When he isn't putting out mixes for the likes of Discobelle and Aritzia, Neoteric works with Switch's acclaimed record label Dubsided. Roden Gray

Tonight Roden Gray in Vancouver is having their Grand Opening Celebration. This store characterizes itself as bringing sophistication to casual wear and providing a diverse selection of items from apparel and shoes, to bags and cologne. As far as their new space, the majority of the furniture and lighting is hand crafted out of Douglas Fir trees from BC, and it looks incredible. Norml X Grillz N Glam Christmas Party

DJ Drastik Red Bull Thre3style

Local Ottawa artist DJ Drastik will be representing Canada in the upcoming Red Bell Thre3style on December 9th. Drastik brings so many things to the music community in Ottawa, and I'm not expecting anything but a solid performance from him in Paris coming up. This guy is representing our home, so show him some support!

Are there any big surprises in your finals set?

There are a few surprises actually. I'm French-Canadian so this actually works out great for me that it's in Paris. I'm bilingual so I have some stuff that I think only French people will get.

What are your top three tracks for slaying the opposition?

I'll say Jay-Z - Big Pimpin', because you just can't help but bounce. I will say my hometown friends, Jokers of the Scene's Baggy Bottom Boys. That shit slays the club every time you play it in every country. And La Roux - In For the Kill

What a Long Strange Trip It's Been

Next Friday, September 24 Freshjive founder Rick Klotz will be hosting an exhibit, lecture, and fanzine premiere at Norml Clothing in Ottawa. Entitled "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been" this presentation promises to be an interesting one as Freshjive - founded in 1989 - recently underwent a change in their branding favouring a more minimal image. For the event Freshjive and Norml collaborated on a t-shirt seen below.



Their first unbranded season was just released for Fall 2010, leaning more towards menswear than the comprehensive history of streetwear that Freshjive is known for. Take a look at the full collection here.
