The 2010 Winter Olympics were an occasion during which Vancouver was subject to acclaim as well as heavy criticism. While many praised Vancouver as being a city of culture and natural beauty, other aspects of the growing city were viewed less favourably. The documentary Streets of Plenty helped to shed light on Vancouver's homeless population, following one individual who starts his journey by shedding the clothes off his back and leaping into the freezing Vancouver inlet in an attempt to experience the same trials as some 8,000 homeless men and women. For a month this documentary exposes the drug use, violence, and social issues that characterize the downtown Eastside. Parts 1 through 7 of the documentary are available on YouTube.
Sincerely,
L.C.
